Shellsburg Man Hurt in Crash
Michael Vogt age 20 of Shellsburg was treated at St Luke s hospital for facial injuries and lacerations after a one car crash on a county road two miles west of Shellsburg. He fell asleep driving east on E 24 and drove into the south ditch. The accident remains under investigation. Passenger Joyce Vogt was uninjured.

Final Arguments Seen Friday in Snethen Trial
In Des Moines Polk county court final arguments were expected Friday in the Daniel Snethen murder trial. On Thursday two doctors reported differing statements by Snethen about Hawbaker. Dr Loeffelholtz said Snethen admitted killing Hawbaker during a psychiatric interview. Dr Garfield said Snethen denied any killing recently.

Two Are Killed In Head-on Crash Near Fairbank
Two people died in a head-on collision on county road 38 near Fairbank when a northbound car driven at high speed crossed into a gravel truck’s path at 3:15 p.m. Jack Butz, 25, of Waterloo, and Michael Earl Nelson, 30, of Independence, were victims. James Green, 39, of Fayette, drove the truck and was treated at an Oelwein hospital. Nelson, born April 26, 1945, worked at John Deere tractor works in Independence, and is survived by a son, a daughter, parents, a grandmother, a brother and three sisters. Services planned for Monday at 11 at White’s in Independence.

Authorities believe they found the body of missing Dubuque podiatrist Joseph Blasi 35 along railroad tracks six miles west of the city.
