Kirkwood Community College projects enrollment will top 4135 from last fall as 1977 78 begins. Admissions head James Miller notes stronger phone in registrations and new programs including ESL drawing 30 35 foreign students. He cites low cost and curriculum variety as drivers of continued growth.
Kirkwood Community College announces 15 new full-time instructors and three new administrative staff for fall. Dean Dunlap becomes director of business affairs, overseeing accounting and financial control. David Bunting named associate director for non-traditional programs and curriculum delivery. Margaret Poorman previously served in staff roles.
Kirkwood Community College begins the new term with orientation activities and campus tours. The day features advising, housing help, free cola, a noon bluegrass concert, and outdoor games while evening classes start Thursday.
Metropolitan Catholic schools begin classes under a temporary administration led by Rev. Eugene Kutsch. A four member team includes Rev. Donald Klein and Rev. Don Schmidt guiding high schools, Joel Goran handling religious education, and Rev. A A Sodawasser overseeing fundraising for Regis and LaSalle. Enrollment expected near last year’s 3628 with curricular updates across grade levels and new teachers at multiple campuses.
Trinity Lutheran School at 1361 Seventh Avenue SW reports higher enrollment as it opens the school year with 223 students in elementary and junior high, up from 216 last year. Principal William Dunk notes private schools attract late deciders, while the church community grows.
The calendar lists key dates for CR schools including the first day August 29 and holidays such as Labor Day on September 5. Open houses for junior high and senior high occur in October, with in-service days scattered through the year. The year ends June 6 with the last day of school.
Guards at the District Building in Washington lack chairs while Oliver Cassell, head of buildings management, refuses to discuss the removal. He says chairs were taken to raise the force's professionalism as guards secure entrances to city hall.
