Made in Iowa film The Hostage ready for release
Heartland Productions' The Hostage, the first full length movie made in Iowa, has passed a trade press test in New York and Hollywood. Variety called it a potential sleeper with tight editing and strong production values. Russell S. Doughten Jr. directs and produces, aiming to keep budgets low and tell good stories with broad mass appeal. The film was shot entirely in Des Moines and nearby, featuring six year old Danny Martins and John Carradine among a cast of Iowans and local crew. A statewide premiere is planned for October with the World theater in Cedar Rapids set to book the film.
