Cedar Rapids officials plan a joint meeting Tuesday at 10 am to launch action on a municipal stadium. Mayor Frank K. Hahn will invite the city council board of education Chamber of Commerce civic leaders and others to discuss site size funding and a possible bond issue. A preliminary PWA grant application may follow and Hill Park could be the site if land values and education board donations align.
Orchestra leader Louis Panico pursued a kidnapper after a neighbor’s alarm. He chased by car and alley fought the abductor until police arrived. Panico’s clothing was torn after the struggle as the rescued girl was found near by.
Chairman Marvin Jones of the House Agriculture Committee proposes abandoning crop acreage allotments and paying farmers to retire land from cultivation. Under the plan the government would provide soil restoring crop payments, about seven dollars per acre retired, while the remainder of the land could be used freely.
In Pasadena 75 WPA workers organized a sit down strike to protest transfers that forced longer travel to jobs. Roughly 400 men protested the lack of transportation provided by WPA, while officials warned workers they may be removed for not reporting to work.
A senate investigating committee in Boston said it has evidence that federal internal revenue employees donated unlawfully to campaign work for Senator William G. McAdoo. The panel will continue its inquiry and notes the contributions appear voluntary, not from assessments or solicitations.
An unidentified man found lying unconscious at First Avenue and First Street was taken to St. Luke's hospital after midnight Sunday. A city physician was summoned and the cause of his condition remained undetermined at press time.
Mrs William Schnell route 4 suffered shock and spine injuries after a two car collision with Leonard Pieper 22 Risbon on Highway 30 just east of Cedar Rapids city limits. Pieper was jailed as police planned drunken driving charges. Schnell family of five rode in one car. none of the children were hurt.
Lindley Beckworth, 26, appeared set to win the Texas third district runoff against Brady Gentry with unofficial returns from eight counties showing Beckworth leading 24 463 to 21 391. In the Thirteenth district Ed Gossett led McFarline 27 073 to 24 969 as Roosevelt backed McFarline referred to as my friend by the president.
Ten sportsmen were believed trapped on small islands 75 to 100 miles south of Brownsville as a hurricane swept toward the Texas coast and into northeastern Mexico. Water flooded passes, hindering rescue. Vincent Stevenson, island camps owner, said eight men were on one island and two on another. National guard and state police were placed on storm duty.
May Yohe, once a famous actress and former possessor of the ill starred Hope diamond, died early today of heart disease in Boston. Announcement was made by her husband Captain John A. Smuts, a former British army officer, who said she succumbed after a brief illness.

CIOs United Mine Workers of America and the Harlan County Coal Operators' association sign a pact presaging peace in bloody Harlan county Kentucky. The agreement dismisses Wagner act charges against 16 coal firms, sets a seven hour day five day week and $5.60 daily rate, forms a reemployment pool, and runs Sept 1 1938 to March 31 1989 with board approval.
The Cedar Rapids area reached a high of 78 degrees at 2 p.m. on Saturday as a warm day cooled. By 6 a.m. Sunday the low fell to 53, with 7 p.m. reading at 75 and a rapid drop to 61 by 9:30 p.m. under mostly clear skies. The late night low was 58.
