Relief as Turkey River crests below feared level in Elkader
Elkader residents breathed relief as the Turkey River crested about 22 feet, below the feared 27 feet, with sandbag walls protecting downtown. Downtown power was cut as a precaution. 20 riverfront buildings lacked power. Residents and merchants coordinated flood response, aided by prior experience from 2008.
