Police and family described the tense night and praised the community effort. Bryce, who has a history of cancer, slept under the clothes and was located by a police officer around 11:25 p.m. His mother said he often sleeps with his head covered.

Linn County Delays Detention Center Over Budget Hike

Linn County supervisors face a $234,300 rise in the Walford Road site project raising total costs to $6.35 million for a planned juvenile detention facility. Extra charges cover sewer and water extensions and design work by Shive Hattery. Negotiations with nearby landowners or Cedar Rapids could reduce the added costs. The panel ordered staff to pursue those talks while aiming to award the contract September 17 and auction the Walford Road property on September 18.

Judge ordered the trial of rural Springville man Stephen Keyes moved because of publicity surrounding the deaths of his wife Sandra and their 2 year old son Joshua in a house fire. Keyes faces two counts of first degree murder.
