States probe health claims in food advertising

Eight states including Iowa and Minnesota investigate claims by dozens of food firms about nutrition and health benefits. Procter & Gamble is questioned over Crisco cholesterol claims while Nabisco Nabisco 100 Percent Bran Flakes labeling and Sara Lee use of light are also examined. Fines could reach up to 25 000 per violation.

Iowa Ham eyes Manchester site for 2 million plant move

Iowa Ham Processors may build a 2 million plant at Manchester or Vinton. If Manchester is chosen, the Vinton operation with 60 workers would move to Manchester, consolidating jobs. The two firms employ about 300 and may add 50 to 75 more with the expansion.
