Escape artist pursues living with growing Ottawa audience
Rick Simzer, 25, calls himself an escape artist and works on Sparks Street in Ottawa after gaining local fame in Cornwall. He earns about $2,000 a year with two bookings monthly, escaping from straitjackets and shackles to the applause of tourists and civil servants. His fiance, Laura Crockatt, assists and also markets his act while sharing concern over his risky stunts.
