The Tennessee Valley Authority announced a third nuclear plant for the Tennessee River area about 1.5 miles below Watts Bar dam. Construction would start after 12 to 18 months of site prep, with two units totaling about 2.2 million kilowatts. First unit expected 1976, second in 1977, similar in size to Sequoyah plant.
The Commerce Department reports July exports at 3.68 billion and imports at 3.24 billion, producing a surplus of 441.3 million. It is the year’s second largest surplus after June’s 466.4 million, with seven months of 1969 showing exports 14 percent above and imports 9 percent higher.
