Iowa City Atty May Fill Office Vacated by Grahl
Major Will J. Hayek of Iowa City emerged as the likely adjutant general of the Iowa national guard to replace Charles Grahl of Des Moines who was named warden of the Fort Madison state penitentiary. Gov. Clyde Herring indicated approval pending Hayek's acceptance. guardsmen reportedly favored the choice. Grahl will succeed Thomas P. Hollowell, who resigns due to ill health. The board named Sheriff W. H. Frazer to be warden of the Ahamosa reform school to replace C. H. Ireland. Hayek, a Democrat and former Iowa City city attorney, serves as a staff officer of the 113th cavalry. The governor will take several days to decide on the military post amid political speculation of an immediate announcement if the Democratic committee approves.
