Branstad Defends Firing of Elderly Advocate
Gov Terry Branstad defended the firing of long term care ombudsman Carl McPherson saying his suspended license prevented him from inspecting nursing homes. Branstad noted McPherson routinely drove while suspended and that many state employees have been dismissed for similar violations. The firing spurs controversy ahead of the fall election as Harkin calls for a review.
