Mercy criminal jus tice department, will teach a course on “Political Accountability of the Police” from 7 to 8 30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. and “The Nature of Criminal Justice”, 6 30 to 9 30 p.m., Mondays. Odar Rapids Police Chief Wallace LaPeters will teach “Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice: Problems of Policing”, 6 30 to 9:30 p m. on Tuesdays. “Language Development and Learning Experiences for Young Children” will be taught by Dr Ellen Marbach, assistant professor of education at Mt. Mercy, from 4 to 4: 50 p m , Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. She will also teach “Parent-School Rela tionships” 6 30 to 8 p rn Monday and Wednesday. The fall term begins Sept. 9 Other late afternoon and evening courses include Introduction to Art, Printmaking, Advanced Shorthand and Transcription, Financial Accounting I, Investments. Public Finance, Social Psychology, Sociology of the Family, A Tour of Spain, Elements of Radio and Television Broadcasting, Diplomatic History, Major Political Problems and Modern Elementary School Math The summer commencement program for Kirkwood Community college was Saturday in Veterans Memorial coliseum The college presented degrees, diplomas and certificates to about 410 persons Iowa Gov. Robert Ray was the commencement speaker Ira Larson, Kirkwood assistant superintendent, was master of ceremonies Morris Allen, who will retire this year from the college board of directors, delivered welcoming remarks. Kirkwood Superintendent Selby Ballantyne presented awards to the graduates. The largest number of eandidates — 135 — are from Linn county Johnson county graduates total 53 The list of candidates also includes IT persons each from Benton and Delaware counties. 15 from Jones county. 13 from Washington county, ll from Iowa county and ten each from Tama and Fayette counties.
