Government To Encourage Soybean Output Next Year
Washington officials explore revising 1973 feed grain rules to boost soybean planting. Possible steps include acreage set asides or market withdrawal for beans, or reducing set aside for feed grains to free land. Officials warn no decisions yet, while Brunthauer cites growing demand and Soviet purchases as motivation.

Farmers Share Of Food Dollar Reaches 41.1 Cents In July
Farmers received 41.1 cents of every dollar consumers spend on food in July, the best in over two years, aided by higher prices for raw items. The farm share had not topped 41 cents since early 1970. The June to July rise came as market basket costs climbed. Cattle prices fell from last month’s peak, signaling possible pullback in farmer share in August. The market basket shows July retail prices 18 percent above June and 45 percent above nine years prior, with farm value at 11.8 percent higher than a year ago.
