Fair Groups Seek Turner Injunction in Iowa Gambling Case
DES MOINES AP Attorneys for fair groups and carnival interests filed with the U.S. circuit court for an injunction against Attorney General Richard Turner. A three judge panel and the Iowa Supreme Court have refused to block Turner from enforcing Iowa gambling laws at fairs. Associate Justice Harry Blackmun ordered a response by Friday. Des Moines attorneys argued the laws are vague and enforcement would cause irreparable financial damage to operators of fair games.

Nader Claims CAB Bias Over Evaluation Clause
Ralph Nader charged the Civil Aeronautics Board with bias in examining the contract terms for evaluating yearly performance. He urged board changes to address alleged employment discrimination against minorities and women and suggested CAB Chairman William Browne resign. Officials said potential changes would require state and federal approval and legal consultation, while the CAB promised to meet day care staff and arrange special sessions as issues emerge. Years ago, Texas saw four inches of rain ending a 63 day dry spell.
