Senate panel proposes moving major intel ops from CIA to new national director

Republicans on the Senate Intelligence Committee floated transferring the nation’s largest intelligence gathering operations from the CIA and the Pentagon to a new national intelligence director. Chairman Pat Roberts said the plan, supported by eight GOP members, aims to address current security threats without focusing on agencies. Plan to reorganize CIA and top intelligence units

The proposal would split the CIA into three new agencies for Operations Intelligence and Science and Technology, each reporting to its own assistant national intelligence director. NSA and NGA would move from the Pentagon to direct control under the collection director.
