Healthy Eating Index reveals national diet under guidelines
The U S Department of Agriculture released a yearly Healthy Eating Index comparing Americans to Dietary Guidelines. The average individual score was 64 percent with only 12 percent reaching 80 or higher. Less than one-fifth consumed fat under 30 percent of calories and under 10 percent from saturated fat. Fewer than 20 percent met grain fruit and vegetable targets. Meat and milk servings lagged behind recommendations.
