John Jordan paymaster for United States Lines and guard Angelo Ragusa were ambushed near the Brooklyn army terminal as two gunmen seized a payroll envelope from Jordan. Ragusa fired back after his windshield was shattered, the trio fleeing in a black sedan amid gunfire.

John C. May of Des Moines was given a 30 day suspended jail term after being charged with false uttering of a check. He allegedly wrote a 9.16 dollar bad check to an Iowa department store in Cedar Rapids on April 14 drawn on a Des Moines bank. Two Oxford men faced charges after a 12:40 a.m. tavern brawl at the Town Pump. Tom Collins 27 was charged with assault and battery and intoxication. Walter Portwood 36 was charged with intoxication. Tyan Swigart 21 was treated and released at a local hospital. Collins posted $200 bond and Portwood $100 bond.
Washington UPI The two engine utility plane lost power after takeoff from Andrews and crashed into woods near the golf course killing Brig. Gen. Lawrence Loesch Col. Howard Labrenz and Lt. Col. James Leroy Tyson. Loesch was a co-pilot for Gen. Le May on a KC-195 Tokyo to Washington flight in 1958. The cause was not released. the men were en route to Keesler AFB Biloxi Miss.
Princess Margaret celebrated her 34th birthday with roses telegrams and a sunlit yacht cruise along Sardinia's Emerald coast aboard a yacht owned by Aga Virgil H Marcy of Marion. A separate report notes a Texas man fined for leaving the scene after a collision.

Dr John Hess of Dyersville aided Mrs Claren at a Worthington farm home Friday. He rode in his car back toward Dyersville after summoning Cramer's ambulance. A county road crossroad collision with the outbound ambulance damaged both vehicles. Ambulance driver Arthur Gebhart sustained a broken nose and head lacerations. Mrs Claren was later taken to Mercy hospital in Dubuque in good condition.
Shirley Stockberger, daughter of Mrs. Paul Stockberger of 524 Nineteenth Street SE, earned a master of science degree at the University of Oregon in Eugene on August 15. In Rawalpindi Pakistan a two year moratorium proposal on the Kashmir dispute was rejected Saturday.
Mrs. William Cubbage Henrietta Marian Cubbage lifelong Cedar Rapids resident dies Friday afternoon after a long illness. Born July 27 1923 in Cedar Rapids she wed April 1 1943 at Iowa City. Survived by husband daughter Jo Ann son William D four sisters. Memorial service 1:30 p.m. Monday Turner chapel Rev Ralph Barron Jr Meth-Wick burial Linwood. Visitation until 1 p.m. Monday. casket will not be opened after the service.
Washington AP report notes thirty of thirty four Democratic governors gathered in Washington to confer with President Johnson. Absent were George Wallace Alabama Orval Faubus Arkansas John McKeithen Louisiana and Paul Johnson Mississippi. Speculation linked the gathering to Johnsons vice presidential pick with a chance the choice was among the visiting executives.
Four year old John Gegner son of Mr and Mrs Gerald Gepner of Twentyeth Avenue SW suffered first and second degree burns after he fell into a pail of boiling water used to clean chickens. He was treated at Mercy hospital and released. The accident occurred Saturday shortly after noon at a neighbor's home.
William A. Sommers and Richard D. Forcst both 18 of NW addresses were fined $10 and costs on charges of possession of beer as minors. Police said they carried a half full bottle in the 1800 block of 12th avenue NW Friday at 930 PM. Municipal Judge Howard McLaughtin imposed the fines.
Francis Leon Bouzek 37 of Center Point was killed when struck by a train near Urbana after his car ran out of gas. He had recently moved from Cedar Rapids. Survived by wife Evelyn and six children, along with his mother and several siblings. Services set for Monday at Teahen Chapel Cedar Rapids with burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
The weather bureau warned of hurricane force winds and high seas for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, with winds increasing to hurricane strength late tonight into Sunday. Hurricane Cleo intensified with winds radiating 40 miles from center, gale lines extending 150 miles north and east, prompting warnings for Dominica, south of Guadeloupe. In Atlantic City, Governor Wallace pressed for repeal of civil rights laws, signaling a possible third party movement after the election, warning of a party upheaval and a push to replace officeholders.
In Columbus Ohio June Eisele 04 mother of astronaut Dona Eisele died of an apparent heart attack late Thursday night less than a week after her husband’s death of the same cause. Mrs Eisele was stricken in her suburban Lincoln Village home and was dead on arrival at a hospital. Her husband Herman 64 died last Saturday. Their son a graduate of the U S Naval Academy was named last year to NASA’s astronaut team.
During interrogation, Debbie's alleged killer admitted planting the shoe in a culvert where it was later found. Rickey is in juvenile custody. Debbie's parents Carl and Karl Dappen, living nearby, have other children and work at the American Automobile Association.
