Agroterrorism training grant to Kirkwood College $3.2 million

Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids receives a $3.2 million Homeland Security grant to fund a train-the-trainer program. About 150 community college instructors will be trained to teach fire and police personnel nationwide on agroterrorism response and recovery, with materials for departments and 300,000 first responders over two years.

Militiamen begin leaving Najaf shrine in Iraq

Militia fighters started to abandon the Shrine of Imam Ali in Najaf taking up positions outside or fleeing the city after Muqtada al Sadr offered to return custody to moderate clerics. U S forces largely held fire after striking militia positions with AC 130 gunship fire overnight. Interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi withdrew a threat to evict the militia by direct assault. Al Sadr called on followers to hand over the shrine keys.
