East Iowa records first West Nile fatality of year
An elderly Eastern Iowa woman, identified only as in her 80s, died from West Nile virus. She was hospitalized in South Dakota then transferred to an Iowa facility where she died after more than a week. It is unclear where she contracted the virus.

Former Iowan killed in Baghdad blast
Martha Teas Meiklejohn 47 grew up in Mason City and worked as a World Food Program consultant at the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad. Her mother said she was declared dead after the attack that killed at least 20 and injured about 100. Angioplasty beats drugs for heart attack care per Danish study
A large Danish study in the New England Journal of Medicine found emergency angioplasty centers cut death and major complications by about 40 percent versus drug therapy alone. Among 1129 patients, 14 percent died or had another heart attack or disabling stroke with drugs, compared with 8 percent transferred for angioplasty.
