Shankland Center gives hope for alcoholics in Monticello
The Shankland Center on the second floor of John McDonald Hospital in Monticello opened last year as a 20 bed in-patient alcoholism treatment unit. It provides detox in 72 hours, six day a week counseling, and a therapeutic community atmosphere with staff trained in chemical dependency care. Patients live in two bed rooms, pay 135 dollars per day plus medical costs, and may continue recovery through AA and family counseling after leaving.
