Iowa City eyes taxi rules after rider assaults
The Iowa City Council will consider new taxi regulations at a future meeting including driver identification and company dispatch rules. The panel balked at forcing drivers to be employees, citing higher costs and potential job losses while stressing public safety and better records on drivers. Yellow Cab of Iowa City and other firms expressed concerns over employment status raising fares and limiting driver hours. Former driver Sean Genell supports the proposal citing benefits, while council members warn about impact on jobs.
