Rehiring urged for Iowa long term care ombudsman

Nursing home advocates in Des Moines urge the state to reinstate Carl McPherson, Iowa long term care ombudsman fired for driving with a suspended license. Volunteers from Waterloo Newton and Des Moines met with Elder Affairs director Betty Grandquist and pressed for reinstatement while broader campaign issues surface. McPherson, 47, served since 1979 and appealed his termination. officials say a line was crossed and action was required.

75 year old Des Moines man pleads guilty to sexual abuse

A 75 year old Des Moines man with prior sex offense convictions pleaded guilty to fondling a boy and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Robert Kearney was labeled a habitual offender and sexual predator and will be eligible for parole after about six years under a new state law.
