Three people sustained minor injuries in two separate Cedar Rapids crashes Tuesday afternoon. Donna Barrow was treated at St. Luke's for possible head injuries after a two car collision at First Street and Seventh Avenue SW. James L. Jensen was charged with failing to yield at a stop sign. Barrow faced violations of equipment standards and improper registration. Bradley J. Huff and Helen G. Baragary were treated at Mercy Hospital for bumps and scrapes from separate incidents.
Australia and New Zealand announced they will withdraw all combat troops from Vietnam by year end. Prime Minister McMahon said most Australian forces to return by Christmas, with New Zealand guiding missiles and instructors reduced. In the town of Manson the heaviest turnout ever decided against a proposal for municipal ownership of the electric distribution system. The plan included up to 950000 dollars in revenue bonds. Final tally 577 against, 413 in favor, three spoiled ballots.
A Tuesday night break in at Bob's Super Valu in Mt. Vernon was reported to the sheriff's office. Deputies said nothing was taken and that an unsuccessful attempt was made to punch the safe.
