Company B of the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City national guards, a 140 enlisted men plus eight officers signal unit, captured first place in overall performance after Fifth Army evaluators judged its camp training at Camp Ripley Minnesota. Captain Jack D. Holsinger leads the unit, which migrated from artillery to communications last March. The team operates two radio teletype vans and four Jeeps, lays telephone wire, and can relay messages over 500 miles. They traveled from Aug 9 to Camp Ripley with civilian jobs paused, endured rain while pitching tents, then completed four days of field work and a week of communications practice before heading home Aug 24.
