Girl Held on Ring Theft Charge in Cedar Rapids

Dans Marie Cleytas, 19, living in Cedar Rapids, was held on a grand larceny charge Saturday night for allegedly stealing a 5150 diamond ring from the Spencer apartment. Detectives said she admitted taking the ring but claimed she returned it the next day, saying she hid it under a trunk sitting on wheels near the dresser. Police and the Spencers secured the scene.

Eleven year old victim injured after rock shatters window

Stephen King, 15, suffered a cut forearm from a rock thrown at a window at the Community Center on 321 Twen Heth Street NW. He was treated with three stitches at SL Luke's Hospital and dismissed. Police say the incident caused the window to break.

A 14 year old from Brooklyn New York clinched a major chess title in Cleveland. The young player defeated a field of strong competitors to claim the victory amid a strong local showing and national attention.

Photographer suffers deep scalp cuts after crowd incident

Photographer Frank Franks received 13 to 18 inches of jagged scalp lacerations requiring about 55 to 60 stitches after being kicked by a saddle throne at the All-Iows fair rodeo. He was hospitalized in fair condition at St. Luke's. the kick was caused by a bucking horse named Eisenhower. Franks, not on assignment, was taking photos near the chutes when the horse bucked and struck him.
