Due process hearing ordered for Cedar Rapids firefighter
Cedar Rapids Fire Department veteran Tom Mackey remains on administrative leave as the Civil Service Commission refers his firing back to the Fire Department for a due process hearing. The panel did not rule on the merits of the discharge and said no determination was made about compliance with city policy. Mackey’s attorney called the ruling neither a win nor a loss, noting it could lead to a fresh hearing or a renewed discharge. The dispute centers on a June 15 emergency medical call involving Valium and morphine administration.
