Iowa’s two year old facial recognition program links about 2 million Department of Transportation photos to flag potential identity fraud. Investigators say the system scans up to 80 images daily, with matches prompting further review about who is pictured.
Image data from about 1900 daily license applications are processed overnight by integrated verification software. The system flags matches against a 2 million driver license database and also flags mismatches with the same name. It uses 10 measurements focusing on rigid facial features like the eye socket nose and chin.
The American Cancer Society report to be presented in China calls cancer the leading death cause and the costliest disease. It notes chronic illnesses kill most worldwide, yet receive little funding, with cancer costing about 895 billion dollars in 2008 and comprising 1.5 percent of global GDP in disability and life lost.
