Stones suit threatens 100 year old amateur sports tradition
A suit by Dwight Stones against the Amateur Athletic Union seeks reinstatement after suspension for earning money in the Superstars event, with the AAU called a monopoly. Stones argues the action challenges a century-old system while the AAU maintains athletes may turn professional to keep earnings. The case, filed July 20, could hinge on California anti trust claims and a preliminary injunction.
