St George Orthodox Church marks centennial with family celebration
The Cedar Rapids parish founded in 1914 by 25 immigrant families plans Aug 29 to Sept 1 centennial events. The group, now about 170 families, has long involved in charity and memorials including 100 holiday baskets, three trees, and a Syrian stone iconostasis carved for the milestone. The close ties span generations with members whose parents and grandparents helped establish the church.
