Eastern Iowa Airport posts record July passenger traffic
The Eastern Iowa Airport served 103,712 travelers in July, surpassing the 2007 July record of 95,105. Airport Director Tim Bradshaw cites the economy and notes renovations are under way, including a $47 million terminal upgrade, a new canopy, improved lobby and baggage areas, and energy upgrades. A boarding bridge, switchback ramp, future concourse expansion, and parking lot projects totaling over $20 million are planned to ease congestion.

In July Cedar Rapids area sales fell to 443 from 530 year before, with average price dropping to 172916 and market time at 72 days. Iowa City area sales reached 413 down from 443, with average price 206481 and 67 days on market. statewide 3888 homes sold, avg price 169479, 77 days on market. Inventory declined 9 percent to 5289 listings.

Deere to lay off 600 plus at U S plants due to weak farm demand
Deere & Company announced indefinite layoffs of more than 600 workers at its Illinois Iowa and Kansas plants as grain price declines cut demand for tractors harvesters and other farm machinery. The Moline based maker also trimmed its full year profit outlook and reported a 5 percent drop in third quarter sales.
