Fennelly era reshapes Iowa State women's hoops origin story
Bill Fennelly embraced a lifelong dream to coach at Iowa State after a circuitous path from Davenport to Notre Dame and Toledo. His arrival followed a pivotal 1995 96 season with Janet Grimm and Tara Gunderson, leading to a dramatic revival with sellout crowds and a breakthrough win over Iowa and eventual Elite Eight run, establishing ISU as a national contender.
