The Corvette he drove collided with a car on County Road B 45 injuring Levi Wells of Maquoketa Iowa. Thomas fled into Wisconsin and was arrested after driving into a field. Authorities say the vehicle had been stolen in South Dakota and he faced charges in four states.
Two Eastern Iowans died in a three vehicle crash on Highway 61 near a Maquoketa truck stop at 3:30 p.m. Dennis Schappaugh of Bettendorf 19 and Dennis McDermott of Dubuque 31 were killed when their cars collided after a Maquoketa teen driver Mary Lowe 16 stopped to turn left.

Four members of an Atlantic Iowa family died in a Sunday collision near Mullen Nebraska. Terrol Lewman 39, his wife Margaret 34 and their two teenage daughters Cindy and Tammy perished when their small car crashed with a camper bus about 14 miles west of Mullen at 10 30 a m. The Hooker County Sheriffs Department released the names and details of the fatal wreck.
