Crandic Interurban Rails From 1904 to 1953

The Crandic interurban began service August 13, 1904, linking Cedar Rapids with Iowa City and beyond. It carried peak riders in 1945 at 573,307 but declined as automobiles grew, with the last electric run in October 1953 and the line abandoned after 1928 on the Mount Vernon route. The system connected Cedar Rapids, Waterloo Cedar Falls, and relied on diesel for freight late in its history.
