A Miami psychologist reports a new AIDS related fear called AFRAIDS acute fear regarding AIDS. Patients believe they are infected despite negative tests and medical evidence. Fear stems from guilt about past sexual incidents and can disrupt work relationships and even parental contact.
Linn County officials say jury service applies to registered voters and others on lists from driver licenses to city directories. People fear it, but exemptions via nonregistration do not exist. jurors can be drawn from utility customer lists and more. Arrest for contempt can occur if a person ignores a court-ordered duty.
July averaged 76.1 degrees in Iowa, 1.8 above normal, with only 2.24 inches of rain statewide, 57 percent below average. Cedar Rapids saw 0.52 inch. August rainfall to date under 4 inches. Cedar Rapids marked 104 on July 31, Des Moines 104, Waterloo 101, Sioux City 100, Cedar Rapids reached 97 Sunday.
