The seven day average yield on money market funds rose to 6.00 percent while the 30 day average fell to 6.01 percent. Bank Rate Monitor reported the effective annual yield on money market accounts at 5.60 percent, and six month CDs at 6.69 percent with several other CD rates rising or holding. Total assets in funds dropped by 75.3 million to 241.91 billion in the latest week, with asset shifts among general purpose broker dealer and institutional funds.

Williams Telecommunications of Tulsa and Lightnet of Rockville Massachusetts have signed an agreement to connect their fiber optic networks and microwave routes. WilTel operates 4600 miles of fiber and 800 miles of microwave links serving 40 cities from the Mississippi to the West. Lightnet runs 5000 miles of fiber across 38 metropolitan markets from Boston to Milwaukee.
