Joslyn Retrial Set for November Second
Shirley May Joslyn’s retrial on a first degree murder charge is scheduled to begin November 2 in Cedar Rapids. Her brother Edward Waterbury, who admitted shooting Robert Joslyn, was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. The Iowa Supreme Court reversed her conviction due to her brother's confession being entered into evidence. Waterbury said they planned the killing after repeated beatings, and he bought the revolver with Joslyn’s money. Neither Joslyn nor Waterbury testified to direct involvement. Waterbury claimed the shooting was justified under Iowa law.
