Cedar Rapids woman dies in two car crash west of Jefferson

Elizabeth Joan Millis 43 of Cedar Rapids died instantly when her car swerved to avoid a vehicle driven by 16 year old Dennis Taggart of Scranton on Highway 30 six miles west of Jefferson. Two Millis children were uninjured. Her husband John Millis heads the East Iowa Umpires Association and serves as an ASA official.

Aspin slams Chrysler over army tank profits

Rep. Les Aspin charged Chrysler Corp. could reap a 114000 percent profit on a 1975 army tank contract, claiming $25 million on a $22000 investment due to army owned plant risk. Escapee Chase Ends in Self Inflicted Firearm Fatality

Cedar Rapids officers and Linn County deputies recaptured escapees after a high tension siege at a two story Cedar Rapids residence. Miss Cathi Marie Chase aged 17 fired a handgun while on the porch, killing herself as police surrounded the house. Police later arrested Roger Hartgrave and Charlotte Meis as further escapees were tracked, while two others remain uncaptured. The gun had misfired once, leaving investigators unsure when the weapon fired. Services for Miss Chase are pending.

Tauke Pollto Faces Mixed Mail Question in Iowa Delegation

Tauke Pollto learned Friday a questionnaire was not mailed to 35 Cedar Rapids delegates. Some delegates learned of the poll and called their preferences. Lipsky Leads ERA Platform Fight at Republican Convention
