Freeman Says Price Spread Is Too Wide
Agriculture Secretary Orville L. Freeman says rising food prices show someone between the farmer and the consumer is profiting. He told United Press International that middlemen may be taking more than a fair share, countering Rep. Graham Purcell who said no unconscionable profits exist. Freeman described his remarks as jocular and warned candidates to avoid battles over bread prices with housewives, who Freeman said are less organized.
