1944 Navy Plot to Kill Tojo Revealed by Retired Admiral
Sokichi Takagi, a former rear admiral and now a commentator, says a group of Japanese navy officers planned to ambush Premier Hideki Tojo in 1944 after he refused to replace his navy minister. The plan depended on Tojo's resignation, which came two days before the date, and Takagi says four officers prepared to strike on July 20. The plot, tied to demands to appoint Adm Mitsumasa Yonai, never materialized.
