Kids Playoff Series Ends This Week

The 1900 Kids league season winds up with city playoff finals in 10 and 12 year old divisions. Tuesday at Ellis Park sees Type Union facing Metropolitan Kiwanis in the 10 and under final. Semifinals Tuesday at Ellis and Van Vechten precede Thursday Noelridge final. Northwest, Northeast, Southeast, and Southwest divisions are down to their last teams.

Thrall Joins Towa Teachers Staff as Assistant Professor

William R. Thrall, 31, formerly Kansas State swimming coach, is appointed to the men's physical education staff at Iowa Teachers College with the rank of assistant professor. No immediate coaching duties. college plans to add swimming to intercollegiate sports soon. Announcement by Dr. William C. Lang after state board approval. Begins at college opening in September.

15 New Swim Marks Set at Cedar Rapids Open

Five meet records fell as a record 120 entrants swam at the Cedar Rapids Open distance and championships Saturday at Ellis Park pool. Doug Felton of Muscatine won the boys 300 and 800 meters in record time. Lisa Ruml of Cedar Rapids set a new standard in the girls 16 and under 50 and 400 meter freestyle. Bette Smith of Cedar Rapids set a record in the women's 600 meters and won the 10 meter event. Ron McDevitt of Clinton, a University of Wisconsin tanker, claimed the men's 20 meter freestyle.

Races at All Town fair feature stock cars and IMCA event

The Downs semibanked half mile oval hosts stock car racing as the first of four events at the All Town fair with IMCA officials forecasting a record entry. Next Sunday includes more stock cars and sprint events ending with the 200 lap under lights. Greyhounds replace go karts at the Iowa State Fair with a $500 purse and a four and a half mile track brought from Florida for the standard W-race.

Boat Races Set at Ellis Park August 28
