Government releases 20 million bushels of corn to War Department
Secretary Wickard announced the Agriculture Department will supply 20,000,000 bushels of government-owned corn to the War Department for alcohol production in munition manufacture. The move frees tanker space used for Cuban molasses and could yield about 125,000,000 gallons of molasses requiring 100 trips to Cuba. It also reduces surplus corn amid storage shortages for the 1941 crop.
