Kirkwood buys 80 acres to bolster ag programs
Kirkwood Community College agreed to spend 1.4 million dollars for 80 adjacent acres at 2800 Wright Brothers Blvd SE, two miles southeast of the Cedar Rapids campus. Vice President Troy McQuillen said the purchase will aid education and farm operation enterprises and keep Kirkwood secure within the southwest development corridor as regional agricultural growth continues.

Summit buys easements from defunct Navigator plan
Summit Carbon Solutions acquired land easements from Navigator CO2 to aid expansion of its own pipeline route. Navigator abandoned its project in October 2023, and Summit has grown by about 340 miles in Iowa. The broader system would cover about 2,500 miles across five states, moving carbon from nearly 60 ethanol plants to North Dakota for storage, with an estimated $8 billion cost and federal incentives. The Iowa Utilities Commission has approved the backbone of the Iowa segment and granted Summit eminent domain power to secure easements.
