Innovative bridge project begins in Buchanan County
The 62 year old Nash Creek bridge on County Road W-35 is being demolished to make way for a 40 foot wide replacement. Gruen Wald Engineered Laminates will supply seven 70 foot glue laminated beams and Sioux City Foundry the hardware. The county pays about 85 thousand dollars for a 300 thousand dollar project. The new bridge will reuse parts from a prior demonstration to save costs and features a pedestrian lane. Assistant engineer Alex Davis expects mid October opening with the deck affixed by adhesive to the beams.

Cedar Rapids will purchase parts of an abandoned rail corridor running through New Bohemia near the NewBo City Market for 275000. An environmental assessment will precede closing in late November, with rail salvaging and parking expansion planned to support redevelopment of the former Iowa Iron Works site.
