Monday at the All Iowa fair drew 18 316 visitors marking the best attended Monday in the fair’s 22 year history. The day featured stock car records at Hawkeye Downs and a Dairy Princess contest with 25 county nominees and a Holiday on Ice program.
Washington senate rackets committee aired a secret tape of Johnny Dio with Union Leader Anthony Doria discussing transferring Dio controlled unions to the Teamsters. Doria acknowledged the recording as his and Dio’s while denying personal use of union funds and detailing investment moves and voting strength plans.
A packed Wednesday schedule lists events at 10 a.m. State Dairy Judging and 1 p.m. Garden Flower judging, followed by a 1 p.m. Belle Plaine band concert. The Daily News reports Mexican sources confirm they were sought by a federal grand jury for questions on Soviet espionage and that deportation as undesirable aliens loomed as they left Mexico for Amsterdam and then Prague. Mrs Stern is the daughter of former U.S. ambassador William E. Dodd.
