Twenty head of purebred Angus heifers plus Herefords and Short horns are shown in a 4 Hand FFA event at the Cedar county fair in Tipton. Harold Timm takes Angus honors with Larry Martens second. Hereford and Short horn winners follow. Swine division sees Lee Wiese and Clyde Martin top market categories. Dairy and lamb classes award blue ribbons to regional 4-H participants. final teams in a boys 4-H demonstration contest are named.

Girls 4-H Demonstrations Pick County Contenders for State Fair

In Iowa City at the Johnson County 4-H achievement show the Union Belles team Gail Ressler and Helen Davis earned the county’s state fair spot with Butter Crust Beauties. Patty Steinbreck and Darlene Vislsel from Jolly Juniors won Waterloo Dairy Cattle Congress berth with The Great American Dessert.

Buck Creek Fair Plans Parades and Church Dinner

Buck Creek holds its annual fair next Tuesday with parades and programs in the afternoon and evening. Women of the church will serve a chicken dinner at noon and a ham supper at night.

All-Iowa Fair Announces Five New Shows for 18th Year

The All-Iowa Fair adds five new shows for its 18th annual event running August 16 to 23. Highlights include junior livestock with baby beeves and market hogs, beef show, dairy show, pig congress, pony show, women’s crochet and sewing contests, fine arts, Tennessee Walking Horse Show, and an aerial Peoples Bank display.

Linn County 4-H Dairy and Swine Show Judging Concludes

Livestock judging ended at Hawkeye Downs with dairy and swine placements. Jane Costello of Cedar Rapids earned double dairy championships in Milking Shorthorns, while Gary Halstead Alburnett and Virginia Pollock Springville led Holsteins and reserve. Guernseys Jerseys and Brown Swiss also topped class results, with Duroc market pig champion Richard Buresh Cedar Rapids and Wallace Van Note claiming top market litter among pigs.

Linn Demonstration Teams Are Selected for State Fair

Mary Ann Buresh and Carol Kvapil of the College Chicadees 4-H club won first place in the Linn county achievement show demonstration contest at Hawkeye Downs, earning the right to represent Linn at the state fair with The Staff of Life bread demonstration. Helen OConnell and Mary Ellen Martin of Fairfax Jolly Juniors were second for Waterloo Dairy Cattle Congress prep. Ten teams competed. judge was Mrs. Harry Brown of Waterloo.

Fair officials corrected a premium book error as Ayrshires will be judged Monday at 9 in the state daily show Olaf Krome of Spring Grove Minnesota will serve as judge.

Girl's Angus Is Baby Beef Champ At Buchanan Fair

Independence report notes Donna Michels Hazleton led a trio of sibling pairs to win grand and reserve Angus in the Buchanan County fair beef show. Donna Dee Circus also claimed reserve, with showmanship honors going to Brown, Arthaud, Circus, Wendell Circus, and Connie Peck. Other winners include Masteller for top market pig and various blue ribbons in swine and lamb classes led by Jesup FFA.

Masonville 4-H youths Pint, Glenn, Paul Barnhart, Junior Jacobsen and James Youngblut showed blue ribbon market lambs. Gordon and Dean Mosher also exhibited blue ribbon lambs. Gene Francis of Iowa State College judged the sheep and swine.
