Fatal blast and fire strike Silver Spring apartment complex
A four story Silver Spring Maryland complex was hit by an explosion and fire just before midnight leaving at least two dead and many missing. The blast injured 34 including three firefighters who were treated and released. Authorities said gas smelled before the blast and search continued as the site was stabilized. About 160 firefighters fought the blaze for about two hours.
