Marion ponders ward voting change for city elections
The Marion City Council weighs altering how council seats are chosen possibly via a November ballot referendum. Currently ward residents vote in all wards, but one proposal would have voters select only their own ward candidates along with at large members and the mayor. The discussion follows population growth from about 18 000 in 1970 to over 37 000 today. The council directed staff to draft ballot language and will discuss it at a work session before a likely vote at the next meeting.
