Cubs keep top farmhands in Iowa for full season
Cubs general manager Dallas Green and manager Lee Elia decline to recall Mel Hall and Pat Tabler from the Iowa Cubs. They argue the players need a full year in triple A to sharpen against top minor league pitching, aiming to rebuild the farm system for future Chicago contention. Hal l is a 21-year-old standout hitting about .320 with strong RBI totals, while Tabler has peaked near .350 and could solidify the infield next year, potentially moving Ryne Sandberg to second base.
