USDA reports that U.S. meat consumption in the first half of the year averaged 90 pounds per person, two pounds above 1967, with beef per capita at 54 pounds. Hog Price Prospects Favorable Says Simer
Hog price prospects look favorable for 1969 with near 1967 levels around $21 to $22, moderating to $18 or $19 by November. August receipts rise, demand strengthens with cooler fall weather, and USDA surveys suggest supply similar to 1967, guiding a steady year ahead. Long-range outlook shows modest growth and possible producer attrition due to retirements labor shortages and shift to other enterprises.
