California overtime suits shift in favor of broader exemptions
California faces a surge in overtime litigation as state rules broaden who qualifies for overtime. RadioShack agreed to a 29.9 million settlement for 1,300 store managers claiming duties and hours exceeded their salaried status. Other major settlements include Starbucks 18 million and SBC Pacific Bell 35 million. Critics say laws invite litigation while supporters defend protections for workers and fairness in pay.
